April 30, 2018 · No Comments

This Week at The Local Will Be Epic!

The Local Debut of Mary Fagan & Cinco de Mayo w/ Don Guano & The Lo Fi Rebellion!

A restless heart and devotion to music has made Mary Fagan a true original with wide ranging influences. Backing herself solidly on guitar or piano, she moves seamlessly from jazz to folk, blues and rock. With influences that range from Duke Ellington to The Grateful Dead, you can't fit her neatly into any one musical category. But no matter what style of music she is playing, her voice will captivate you. It is bold and smooth, as if it were forged in the blues and then dipped in velvet. Read More Below.

Intertwining Electric & Acoustic Guitar with Mandolin & Drums, Don Guano & The Lo-Fi Rebellion Have Their Own Unique Sound. These Local Warner Boys Weave a Tapestry of Melodic Rock Songs That Are Polished, Yet at The Same Time Raw Sounding, Aggressive, Yet at The Same Time Vulnerable. Oh, and they're Good Guys Too. Come Check Them Out.

Mary Fagan Bio:

Music has always been part of life for Fagan. She grew up in a house where her parents both played piano. There were piano lessons and also music in school band on the flute. At The University of New Hampshire she studied Math and Political Science, earning a bachelor's degree in each. It was there, too that she picked up the guitar. It's portability suits her quite well. She's traveled most of the US, with long stints in New York, Colorado, California, North Carolina and most recently Austin, Texas, soaking up musical styles and flavors along the way. She's happy playing music in many settings; solo, duo, trio or with a full band.

The Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan have been big influences, as well as jazz singers like Billie Holiday and Carmen McCrae. Whether with a group or accompanying herself on piano or guitar, her vocals are striking. She is both gritty and pure, her winsome style could give a grey sky the blues.

When vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Eric Lindberg was a young boy living in New England, he voraciously consumed guitar magazines on the hunt for new and exciting music. Living on a diet of fast guitar masters like Satriani and Vai, Eric would regularly convince his older brother to pack them in a car and drive the 40 minutes it took to reach the nearest music store. If he couldn’t find an album he was looking for, he would special order it… even if it meant waiting weeks for it to arrive. Fast forward a few years and Eric was on his way to becoming a master in his own right.  While New England was home, it was time to find a different scene.

Eric’s affection for Eric Johnson made him consider and ultimately choose Austin, TX.   Eric Lived there for over a decade.  In may ways, Austin was an eye-opening experience fraught with successes, failures and adventures too numerous to account.  Just when Eric thought it time to return home…   While sitting in with American soul and blues singer Malford Milligan, Eric was asked to stay in Austin to record his third album, Eric and the Wreckage.  This process was interrupted when Buddy Miles appeared looking for a backing band  . At this point, Eric had already been playing live music for fifteen years, but nothing could have prepared him for the unusual and frequently surreal experience of spending time on the road with an established act like Buddy Miles. In 2007, Eric toured with the legendary musician, traveling across America’s west coast and showcasing his own incredible guitar and vocal skills to enthusiastic Audiences nearly every night.  When he finished his time on the tour, Eric knew he needed to continue playing live music.  He just wanted to do so closer to the land of his birth.  He returned to New England from Austin and threw himself into it’s scene.

From Eric’s first album, Common Thread (2000) to his self titled album Eric Lindberg (2007), and his Eric and the Wreckage (2007) the vocalist, singer, lyricist, and bass-guitarist has continued to passionately chase his love for music. Working with excellent blues and jazz musicians from across the country, Eric has recorded a variety of blues, jazz, pop, swing, and hybrid music. Mike Kindred, blues piano virtuoso and composer of multi-platinum SRV hit “Cold Shot,” has called Eric “a sure and original blues voice,” and “prodigiously talented.”

A strong believer in the philosophies of the Martial Arts, Eric strives to create music in a similar manner to how he lives his life: with graciousness, hard work, and empathy. This philosophy has pushed Eric to constantly improve his craft, to only release music he feels passionate about, and to surround himself with people who share similar core values. At times, this discriminating approach has made the process more difficult, but much like the Masters Eric admires, he believes little good will come from chasing a goal that is not his own.   As time consuming and sometimes illusive as the artist’s life is, Eric wouldn’t trade it for anything. He likes to say that he’s attempted to break up with music twice, but as the great Al Pacino said, “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in!” It’s real love.
